Red face Cuss Control

Ok, so today I said the f-word a couple of times not realizing that there were two 3 or 4 year old kids around me. LOL, they were staring at me with such weird expressions, like they were scared/confused or something (I was kinda embarrassed so I kinda avoided eye contact with their mother heh). This is a word I use once too often now. I feel really guilty about it. Most kids these days know too much about cussing, and I feel really bad knowing that most of them are copying adults like me. Ugh, I feel like such a moron. Anyways, I found this list from googling (cusscontrol.com) and I want to share this because I found it to be somewhat important (well at least to me):

What's Wrong With Swearing?

Swearing Imposes a Personal Penalty
It gives a bad impression
It makes you unpleasant to be with
It endangers your relationships
It's a tool for whiners and complainers
It reduces respect people have for you
It shows you don't have control
It's a sign of a bad attitude
It discloses a lack of character
It's immature
It reflects ignorance
It sets a bad example

Swearing is Bad for Society
It contributes to the decline of civility
It represents the dumbing down of America
It offends more people than you think
It makes others uncomfortable
It is disrespectful of others
It turns discussions into arguments
It can be a sign of hostility
It can lead to violence

Swearing corrupts the English language
It's abrasive, lazy language
It doesn't communicate clearly
It neglects more meaningful words
It lacks imagination
It has lost its effectiveness

Please feel free to discuss or bash me

Swearing is fine when the situation calls for it. When you are upset or telling a story about something that upset you but like Stixxx said, using it after every other word is over doing it. I think the ones that abuse it the most are when some teens are out in public talking to each other in there small group of 3 or 4 they seem to think that it is a video game and you earn points everytime they use a swear word so they use them as verbs, adjectives and nouns.

Same 'ere.

I just don't understand the negative connotation to a couple of words.
What about President Bush then? His name is a reference to our loins! IMPEACH HIM!
And the same goes for roosters since they say RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO-a-doodle-doo!

Nothing shocking about them, the only thing I use them for is just to show the degree of emotions I am in, and I won't curse when it's really not needed to, or if I'm trying to prove a foul-louthed person wrong by ridiculizing his (ab)use of language.

How much control do you have? It's okay to swear when you are angry? Why are you angry? Should you be so easily angered? Is there a better way to respond? Are you happy when you swear? What do you look like when you swear? How does your body react when swearing? How do you feel when someone else is swearing? Ask yourself these questions the next time you feel like swearing and are about to go into a tantrum IRL. You might be happier.

Swearing/cussing means saying it with feeling IMO. When people just casually season whatever they say with a few superfluous F bombs with no rage behind it well that is technically swearing but in a meaningless way and is plain stupid/redundant.

When i think of it, the most swearing i've ever done is by playing GW lol! When things aren't going the way they supposed to, and i or the entire team even gets killed in the most ridiculous way i lash out in a titlewave of swears and curses that would shock the devil himself , and my girlfriend closes every door between me and herself ^^
my ingame chat looks something like this then:

I Doomy I: ----- --- ----- ----- ---- ---- -- ------ ------- --- - -------- ---- ---- -------

Its just a game...lmao

Background time...

I'm a French-Canadian, raised in English and French. 90% outside of my apartment and the net, I speak French. Here, the f-word isn't much of a cuss word. I fail to see what's SO WRONG about it. Much like an English-speaking person probably doesn't get French swear words... so I more or less care for them. I won't abuse of it, because I know the meaning it has in English and how it pisses some people off.

America is not, I repeat not the world. So really it should read the dumbing down of everyone.

I only agree with the third of those lists.

The rest is just social brainwashing.
Swearwords are not inherantly worse than any other words on principle.
Furthermore, if people are offended by them... then it is the fault of the offended... not the one swearing. They should learn not to be bothered by such things.

When people try to tell me not to swear... or discourage me like its something special or evil.... I typically just smile at them sweetly and tell them to go fvck themselves.

But... swearing IS overused. That is to say people use it as a substitute for more expressive communication... and as such it is a very primitive way of expressing very primitive feelings and the like in such a context. It can be used effectively, as I endeavour to.... or it can be brutalised... as most chavs demonstrate.

I only swear when I need a way to vent my aggression after something happens that angers me, totally frustrates me or when just messing about with mates like Miss Temptress said. I just find it helps; after a bad day at work I sometimes just feel like hitting something or someone (people can be so damn stupid at times). This reminds me of that cartoon video, "history of the f word", it's quite funny. If you google it you'll find it, but do it at your own risk if you are easily offended by excessive swearing, you have been warned .

I don't cuss much but seriously, I do think teens and kids today (I'm a teen too) cuss way to much. I'm serious. The people at my school say the F word as if it were please and thank you. Now that's just a lot.
